Or do you just enjoy math and want to solve challenging problems in a fun, game-like setting? If you answered yes to any of these questions, Math Olympiads is the camp for you! During the school year, Math Olympiads is a math club that meets weekly to practice and participate in contests against other competitors worldwide. Although we won't be competing through the official program during the summer, students will learn problem solving strategies and methods of tackling challenging, non-traditional problems. Students will become better problem solvers, explore mathematical topics they aren't likely to learn about in their regular classroom during the school year, and have a great time doing it. This camp is geared towards students who enjoy and excel in math. Students who would benefit from a camp that reviews grade level skills should look for the camps called "Math Camp."

This unique camp focuses on the development of the whole child. I am a mom of 4 school aged children, an experienced elementary school educator, and a certified adult and children’s yoga teacher who LOVES to connect with, and inspire children every day. Each class I offer will be fun filled from beginning to end! My goal is to offer an empowering, educational, and creativity-boosting camp experience. Children will enjoy a nurturing, supportive, non-competitive atmosphere while practicing with me. We offer activities which will stretch, strengthen and energize their bodies and minds, and they will learn to express themselves creatively and compassionately. We will practice working cooperatively in large and small groups, be introduced to activities they may not have tried before, learn self-regulation techniques, develop new friendships and have loads of fun!

Ever wonder how they design apps for smartphones? Stop wondering and start creating your very own apps! In this introductory course, students will learn how to create their very own smartphone apps. The applications which students create will run on any Android device. Students receive instruction on developing an application by designing a user interface and then coding its functionality. They learn to complete their app by testing it thoroughly and then preparing it to be installed onto a device. Students are encouraged to be creative in their designs and leave their own personal imprint on the apps they create. Some of the exciting apps students will create at this camp include a digital Magic 8-Ball, smartphone sketch pad, and the arcade classic Whac-A-Mole.
This course is taught by Chris Rossetti who has been offering children math and science enrichment through computer science education for years. Although students are welcome to bring in their own Android device, all participates will have access to Android smartphones to create and test their apps in class. Is your child ready for 6th grade math this fall? Do they possess all of the core skills which are necessary to succeed? If you are not completely sure, have your child come join Ms. Hartnett for a fun-filled week of learning!
Who says math is boring? It’s definitely not when Ms. Hartnett is teaching it! We will spend the week refining the critical skills (see below) that students will need in order to achieve success once school starts just a few weeks later. Each morning, we will focus on 2-3 important skills and then test each child’s understanding by having them participate in fun, hands-on, and engaging games. Together, let’s make this upcoming school year your child’s best yet!
We will also preview the first month of what your child will be taught in 6th grade. This will greatly help ease their transition in this new environment.
Skills to be covered: arithmetic, fractions, geometry, rounding, place value, factors, multiples and so much more!
